Yes for everything that runs on your Mac — the rewrites you get while typing need no connection at all. The optional Pro cloud extras simply pause while you're offline and resume when you're back; in Local-Only mode they never run in the first place. Here's the full breakdown.

Grammarly floats a widget over your text and asks you to review it. Lyra shows a quiet pill near your caret — Tab accepts, keep typing to ignore. It preserves your meaning and your register rather than formalising everything, your everyday writing stays on your Mac, and it learns how you write to each person. Apple's Writing Tools need you to select text and invoke a menu. Lyra is ambient — the fix arrives as you type, with nothing to select. A note from the founder

I'm Pratik. I spent ten years as a lead engineer in London fintech — environments where tools like Grammarly were banned, for a good reason: they send everything you type to someone else's server.

Lyra is the writing assistant I wasn't allowed to have. It runs on your Mac, fixes your writing as you type, in every app — and it learns something no cloud tool has attempted: how you write to each person. Because the truth is, you don't write to your boss the way you write to your best mate. Your writing assistant should know that.

I'm building Lyra alone, without investors. That means it improves at the speed of one person who cares about it obsessively — and it means the person answering your email is the person who wrote the code. Nothing you type is ever used to train anything, and where your text goes is always your decision, not mine.
